Osteotomies around the knee

The alignment of your leg may predispose you to developing arthritis in one or the other compartment of your knee. People who are naturally “bow-legged” preferentially load the medial compartment of the knee. Similarly, people who naturally have “knocked-knees” preferentially load the lateral compartment.

If you present in the early stages of arthritis, osteotomies (or “bone cuts”) can be performed to re-align your leg. In doing so, the loading forces through the involved compartment can be re-directed, with the aim of slowing disease progression and helping to relieve your pain symptoms.

If you are a candidate for knee osteotomy, Mr Jesani will discuss with you the treatment rationale after obtaining specific x-rays. He will also discuss potential risks and outcomes of the operation at your next consultation.
