First appointment.

You will be greeted by his Practice Manager who will take some contact details from you, including insurance provider or ACC details. Mr Jesani will then see you to discuss your problems, examine you, and look at any relevant imaging and laboratory tests.

Sometimes further investigations are needed before a treatment plan can be made, which may or may not involve surgery. If surgery is recommended, he will inform you of both the risks and expected outcomes. A Hospital Admissions pack with questionnaires and various forms will be given to you and will need to be filled out and returned to the hospital at least 3 weeks prior to surgery.

Important information including when you should stop eating and drinking before the operation will be provided. Sometimes you may need to be referred to another physician if you have multiple health issues. This is so we can optimize your health and medications prior to surgery. You will also be contacted by an Anaesthetist prior to surgery.

Remember, surgery is a choice.

Mr Jesani will help provide you with all the information you need to make an informed decision.

Prehabilitation.

Prehabilitation is a multi-faceted approach that involves optimizing your physical and functional capacity, psychological well-being, and nutritional state prior to an operation. Getting you “game ready” will help reduce hospital stay, enhance your recovery, and may reduce your risk of peri- operative complications.

Ultimately, Mr Jesani’s aim is to help you regain your quality of life and return you to an active, healthy lifestyle. You may be referred to our affiliated physiotherapists and nutritionist as part of this ‘Prehab’ regime.

Day of surgery.

Mr Jesani works at both Southern Cross Hospital and Anglesea Hospital in Hamilton.

After checking-in at the Reception, you will meet the nursing staff looking after you.

Mr Jesani and his Anaesthetist will see you in the ‘Pre-Operative’ area prior to your surgery where the operative and anaesthetic plan will be again discussed with you, and a mark will be drawn on the appropriate limb.

After surgery.

As you come round from your anaesthetic, you will be in the Post Anaesthesia Care Unit (PACU).

If the surgery you are having is ‘Day-Surgery’, you will be taken to another area for observation prior to your discharge. Otherwise you will be taken to your room on the ward and will have continuing care from our friendly nursing staff.

When you are safe to be discharged, you will be provided with information about wound care, relevant precautionary measures, and who to contact if you have any concerns. A follow-up appointment will be made and a prescription for pain-killers will be provided.

Rehabilitation.

Your journey to recovery will continue with specific exercise regimes tailored to the type of surgery you have had. The prehabilitation you received would have prepared you for this and will enhance your recovery.

Our physiotherapists are dedicated to improving your mobility and performance, as well as educating you on injury prevention and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Fees.

ACC funding

If your condition is a result of an injury, you will be able to get funding for your treatment from ACC. An ACC number is usually allocated to you in this situation. Mr Jesani will apply to ACC for funding prior to your treatment. This process can take up to 6 weeks.

Private health Insurance

You will be provided a quote for the surgery at your consultation, which can be forwarded to your Health Insurance provider for pre-approval

Self-funding

This may be an option for you if you do not have Health Insurance or ACC funding does not apply. In certain situations, a referral to the public sector may be considered.
