With our increasingly active lifestyles, young adults are at risk of injuring the non-bony parts of the knee with certain twisting movements, or sudden deceleration forces of the knee.

These parts include the meniscus (a fibrocartilage “shock-absorber”) and ligaments such as the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), Posterior Cruciate Ligament (PCL) and the collateral ligaments. Occasionally, a combination of these structures can be injured in severe cases.

Participation in certain sports such as soccer, rugby, basketball, netball and skiing have a particularly high incidence of these injuries.

Depending on the type of injury you have, Mr Jesani will discuss both non-operative and operative treatments with you, including the type of pre- and post-operative rehabilitation required, time to return to sport, and risks of the operation. This type of surgery is typically done arthroscopically (“key-hole” surgery).
